Symmetry and asymmetry in physics teories

What do the artists and physicists have in common? The concepts of symmetry and asymmetry play an important role both in art and in physics.

Antonio Masiero is a professor of Astrophysics at the University of Padua and the Vice-president of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. Director of '"International Journal of Physics", he has been a researcher and lecturer in many Italian and foreign institutions, including CERN of Geneva, the Max Planck Institute of Munich, the New York University and the International School for Advanced Studies of Trieste. He has worked on theories of physics beyond the Standard Model, focusing in particular on the sectors of high energy, high intensity and astroparticle physics. He has published almost two hundred papers in some of the leading international scientific journals, with an average of over fifty quotations per publication.


Nadia Pastrone is Director of Research at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Turin since 2009. Her research in subnuclear physics with accelerators, which started at CERN in Geneva during the thesis, has matured at Fermilab in Chicago. Since 2011 she is the national coordinator of the Italian physicists working on the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment for the study of the Higgs boson. She has about four hundred and fifty publications in international scientific journals, of which sixty with over one hundred quotations.
