Person. Handle with care. From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September in Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo almost 200 events including lectures, exhibitions and shows. Among the protagonists, 54 speakers, of which 24 make their debut at the festival. Among the most awaited guests: Augé, Bodei, Bianchi, Cacciari, Crouch, Ehrenberg, Galimberti, Giovannini, Marzano, Massini, Quante, Recalcati, Rosen, Roy, Severino, Vegetti Finzi. The programme also includes eight "philosophical menus" to remember Tullio Gregory.
Squares and courtyards will host 54 lectures in which masters of the philosophical thought will confront the public on the subject of "person", which indicates a long lasting category of European culture, the foundation of individual autonomy and human rights. Always immersed in a network of reciprocity, the person is led back to the principle of dignity, both in the social and political field (as for example in the case of work), and in the bioethical questions of beginning and end of life. We will also investigate the way in which being a person - referring to his original meaning of mask - passes through the recognition and the staging of the self in which the subjectivity of each is expressed.
The 2019 edition, while confirming the close link with the major protagonists of the philosophical debate, presents twenty-four new voices. Among foreign authors, two thirds are at their debut at the festival.
Among the recurring protagonists are Marc Augé, Enzo Bianchi, Massimo Cacciari, Donatella Di Cesare, Roberto Esposito, Umberto Galimberti, Michela Marzano (Lectio "Rotary Club Gruppo Ghirlandina"), Stefano Massini (Lectio "Coop Alleanza 3.0 "), Jean-Luc Nancy, Salvatore Natoli, Massimo Recalcati, Emanuele Severino, Carlo Sini, Silvia Vegetti Finzi and Remo Bodei, President of the Scientific Committee of the Consorzio per il festivalfilosofia.
Among the "debutantes", Michel Agier, Leonardo Caffo, Colin Crouch (Lectio "Gruppo Hera"), Alain Ehrenberg, Paolo Flores d'Arcais, Enrico Giovannini (Lectio "Confindustria Emilia Area Centro"), Danilo Martuccelli, Michael Rosen (Lectio "BPER Banca"), Olivier Roy, Michael Quante.
The philosophical programme of the festival also proposes the section "the lesson of the classics": eminent experts will comment on the texts that, in the history of Western thought, have constituted models or conceptual turning points relevant to the subject of the person.
If the lectures are the heart of the event, a vast creative program (still in progress) will involve performances, music and live shows. Among the participants: David Riondino (with a band concert), Lino Guanciale (in a conversation about Canetti), Chiara Valerio (in a reading from an unpublished text), Lella Costa (in a recital on Edith Stein). There will be book markets and initiatives for children and young people.
Over thirty exhibitions on the occasion of the festival, including the solo shows by Vittorio Guida and Luisa Menazzi Moretti produced by Fondazione Modena Arti Visive. In Carpi an exhibition at the Palazzo dei Pio Museums presents engravings by Picasso, Kirchner and Chagall on the theme of the mask, while in Sassuolo a solo exhibition by Mustafa Sabbagh is dedicated to the condition of the human.

First edition after the death of Tullio Gregory, the festival will pay homage to the figure of the great master, among other things, proposing some of the most significant of his "philosophical menus" for more than seventy restaurants and wine bars in the three cities.
